Box breathing timer
Box breathing — four counts in, four held, four out, four held — is the technique Navy SEALs use to steady themselves under pressure. Two minutes is usually enough to feel your shoulders drop.

How to do box breathing
- Sit comfortably, feet on the floor, shoulders soft.
- Breathe in gently through your nose for 4 seconds.
- Hold the breath softly — no clenching — for 4 seconds.
- Exhale slowly through your mouth for 4 seconds.
- Rest with empty lungs for 4 seconds, then repeat.
Why it works
Slow, even breathing with extended exhales activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the body's built-in "rest and digest" mode. Heart rate slows, blood pressure eases, and the stress-hormone response quiets down. It's a skill: the more regularly you practise, the faster it works when you actually need it.
Inside The Wellness Hub, guided breathing sessions count toward your daily rituals and streaks, so a two-minute reset also builds a habit that lasts. Read the full guide to box breathing.
